Game Information
Saturday 29th March – Kick-off – 21:30 (GMT)
The last meeting between these sides took place in October 2024 with Atlético Mineiro coming out on top in a 2-1 victory.
Gremio
Grêmio will be hoping for a better campaign this time around after finishing 14th last season, just three points above the drop zone.
Gustavo Quinteros takes charge of the team and has already led them to the Campeonato Gaúcho final, where they suffered a 3-1 aggregate defeat to bitter rivals Internacional. His most recent spell as manager came with Vélez Sarsfield where he guided the team to the league title.
Cristian Olivera, Lucas Esteves, Luan Candido, Wagner Leonardo, Camilo, Francis Amuzu, Tiago Volpi, Gustavo Cuellar, Joao Lucas and Lucas Rangel have all been brought in.
After relinquishing their Gaúcho crown, Quinteros will be under pressure from the start to deliver positive results.
Atletico Mineiro
It was a season of ‘ifs,’ ‘buts,’ and ‘maybes’ for Atlético Mineiro in 2024, as they suffered heartbreak in both the Copa do Brasil and Copa Libertadores, finishing as beaten finalists in both competitions.
In the league, they narrowly avoided relegation, finishing just five points clear of the drop zone.
Cuca returned to the club in January for his fourth spell in charge of Galo. Back in 2021, he led the team to their first league title in 50 years, along with triumphs in the Copa do Brasil and Campeonato Mineiro.
This season has already started on a positive note, with Atlético lifting the Mineiro State title after a 4-1 aggregate win over América Mineiro.
Galo have been busy in the transfer market, bringing in Ivan Roman, Caio Paulista, Rony, Cuello, Junior Santos, Natanael, Patrick Silva, and Gabriel Menino.
