Game Information

Sunday 6th April – Kick-off – 22:30 (GMT)

Sport Recife

Sport Recife’s return to the top flight began with a solid performance, earning a valuable point away to São Paulo at the Morumbi.

Their organized defensive display stood firm, and the result will certainly be seen as a positive start to life back in Série A.

In midweek, Sport faced Retro in the final of the Pernambucano State Championship. Holding a 3-2 advantage from the first leg, they lost 2-1 on the night, sending the tie to penalties.

Showing composure under pressure, Sport prevailed 4-2 in the shootout to claim their third consecutive state title.

They’ll now be looking to carry that momentum into what promises to be a tough clash against one of the league’s title favourites.

Palmeiras

Palmeiras were left frustrated on opening day as they were held to a 0-0 draw at home by reigning champions Botafogo in a fairly even contest.

While they would’ve preferred all three points, avoiding defeat on the first weekend is always a solid foundation.

Midweek action brought more excitement, as Palmeiras edged Sporting Cristal 3-2 away in the Copa Libertadores. The hero of the night was Richard Rios, who scored a dramatic stoppage-time winner—ghosting in at the back post to nod in a looping ball from 18-year-old Luighi. The youngster made an instant impact, having just come off the bench moments earlier and quickly delivering an assist.

Palmeiras will be aiming to tighten things up at the back as they go in search of their first league win of the season.
