Vitória
It’s been a disappointing week for Vitória, who are now winless in their last four matches across all competitions.
Over the weekend, they started poorly in a 2-0 defeat to Juventude—conceding just eight minutes into the first half and again seven minutes after the restart. They’ll need to sharpen up at the beginning of both halves if they want to turn things around.
Midweek brought more frustration in the Copa Sudamericana, as they again conceded shortly after halftime against Universidad Católica. This time, however, Matheuzinho came to the rescue from the penalty spot to salvage a point.
They’ll need to be far more switched on in this one, with a clash against one of the title favourites looming—it could be a long night for the Northeastern side if they aren’t.
Flamengo
All the talk heading into the season was about how dominant Flamengo had looked in the Carioca and Supercopa, but it was Internacional who struck first at the Maracanã through Bruno Henrique. The Rio side didn’t let it rattle them, as they responded in the second half with an equaliser from centre-back Léo Pereira. Still, the Rubro-Negro were unable to find a winner and will be looking to be more clinical in this next clash.
Flamengo were also in action midweek, picking up a 1-0 away victory against Venezuelan side Deportivo Táchira, courtesy of a second-half goal from Juninho.
Now, they will be eager to grab their first win of the Brasileirão season as they aim to live up to their billing as title favourites.
