Game Information
Sunday 13th April – Kick-off – 21:30 (GMT)
Grêmio
Grêmio come into this game off the back of a 2-0 win over Grau of Peru in the Copa Sudamericana — a much-needed boost after a poor league performance last weekend that saw them fall to a 2-0 defeat against Ceará.
After conceding a penalty, coolly converted by Pedro Raul, Grêmio were left chasing the game. They stayed in it right up until the final moments when a late corner saw them throw caution to the wind by sending goalkeeper Tiago Volpi forward. But the gamble backfired, as Ceará broke quickly and sealed the win with a second goal.
Grêmio will need to sharpen up if they’re to get anything from this clash against a Flamengo side that will be hungry to put right their hiccup in midweek
Flamengo
Flamengo will be looking to build momentum after securing their first win of the league campaign last weekend against Vitória.
After being held to a 1-1 draw by Internacional on the opening day — a match where they dominated possession but couldn’t make it count, Filipe Luís, saw his side respond with a hard-fought victory in Salvador.
It wasn’t all smooth sailing at the Barradão, though. Following a goalless first half, Giorgian de Arrascaeta produced a moment of magic with a clever finish to put Flamengo ahead. Vitória struck back through Wellington Rato, whose deflected effort wrong-footed Agustín Rossi.
But Flamengo regained control, and Bruno Henrique scored late on after getting on the end of a Luiz Araújo cross to secure all three points.
In midweek, however, Flamengo were left frustrated as they fell to a surprise 2-1 defeat at home to Central Córdoba. The Argentine visitors stunned the Maracanã by racing into a 2-0 lead before the break. Nicolás De La Cruz managed to pull one back for the hosts in the second half, but it proved too little, too late.
