Vasco da Gama endured a tough night on the road as they fell 3-0 to Corinthians, who produced a ruthless display of finishing at the Neo Química Arena.

The scoreline might have been even worse, with Corinthians having two goals disallowed, but the damage was already done early on.

Yuri Alberto opened the scoring inside 11 minutes, capitalizing after Memphis Depay chested the ball down perfectly for him to finish.

Just moments later, the duo combined again, with Alberto turning provider for Depay to double the lead, leaving Vasco stunned.

The second half didn’t offer much relief. Although two more goals were disallowed, Vasco’s hopes of a comeback were dashed in stoppage time when João Victor, unfortunately, turned the ball into his own net, sealing a frustrating night.

Vasco did manage to bounce back in midweek with a 1-0 victory over Puerto Cabello in the Copa Sudamericana.

Sport

It was a tough one to take for Sport Recife, who were beaten 2-1 at home by Palmeiras in heartbreaking fashion, thanks to a stoppage-time penalty.

Palmeiras took the lead early through Flaco López from the spot, but Sport hit back quickly. Chrystian Barletta pulled things level with a smart finish after a well-worked corner routine.

For most of the match, Sport looked solid and right in it. It looked like it was heading for a draw—until deep into stoppage time when Palmeiras were awarded another penalty. Joaquín Piquerez stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way, snatching the win right at the death.

A frustrating end to a game where Sport gave everything, but just came up short. They’ll be eager to bounce back and make it count next time. With no match during midweek, they have had extra time to prepare for this one which could give them an advantage.
