It’s a busy week in the Brasileirão as we gear up for the first midweek match week of the season and as always, there are some tasty-looking battles on the card.

We’re switching things up this time, bringing you all the match previews in one place. Let’s take a look ahead at the action.

Ceará SC v Vasco da Gama
16/04/2025 – Kick Off: 01:30 GMT

Ceará will be looking to bounce back after suffering their first defeat of the league season at the weekend, falling 2-1 to Juventude on the road. With three matches played, they sit eighth in the table and will be glad to return to home turf, where they’ll aim to get back on track.

Vasco da Gama responded well after last week’s loss to Corinthians. They first claimed a win over Puerto Cabello in the Copa Sudamericana before following it up with an impressive 3-1 victory against Sport Recife. Vasco now sit fourth in the league and will be eyeing a third straight win across all competitions.

Prediction: Ceará 2-2 Vasco

Botafogo v São Paulo
16/04/2025 – Kick Off: 22:30 GMT

It’s been an up-and-down start for the reigning champions. Botafogo have one win, one draw, and one loss so far—most recently falling 1-0 away to Bragantino. Having already struggled for rhythm during the Carioca State Championships, they’ll be eager to avoid slipping into a pattern and will see this as a chance to steady the ship.

São Paulo are still unbeaten in the league, but three straight draws have them sitting 15th. While it’s still early in the season, they’ll need to start turning stalemates into wins. At the weekend, they shared the spoils in a 1-1 home draw with Cruzeiro.

Prediction: Botafogo 1-0 São Paulo

Mirassol v Grêmio
16/04/2025 – Kick Off: 23:00 GMT

Top-flight newcomers Mirassol are still hunting their first win, having drawn two and lost one of their opening three matches. Last time out, they put in a solid shift to earn a point away at Bahia. They’ll now look to build on that display and will feel they’ve got a good shot at three points against a Grêmio side that’s struggled recently.

Grêmio started the campaign with a win, but momentum has since stalled following back-to-back 2-0 defeats—first to Ceará, then to Flamengo. With a huge clash against rivals Internacional coming up this weekend, Grêmio will be hoping for a much-improved performance to build some momentum ahead of the GRENAL.

Prediction: Mirassol 1-1 Grêmio

Sport Recife v Bragantino
16/02/2025 – Kick Off: 23:00 GMT

Sport Recife sit rock bottom of the league after three matches and will know they need to start turning results around. At the weekend, they were on the wrong end of a 3-0 battering away to Vasco da Gama. It may still be early days, but they’ll be keen to avoid falling into the habit of losing—especially if they want to steer clear of an immediate return to the second tier.

Bragantino, meanwhile, finally got off the mark with a much-needed 1-0 win over reigning champions Botafogo last time out, after opening the campaign with a draw and a loss. It was a big result for them, but the question now is: can they back it up with another win here as they look to build some momentum?

Prediction: Sport Recife 2-1 Bragantino

Corinthians v Fluminense
16/04/2025 – Kick Off: 23:30 GMT

It’s been a mixed start for Corinthians, who’ve drawn one, won one, and lost one from their opening three matches. On Saturday, they fell 2-0 to fierce rivals Palmeiras after a sluggish first half. Timao will be desperate to respond immediately and will be looking to replicate the strong performance they put in during their last home match—a convincing win over Vasco da Gama.

Fluminense, on the other hand, knew the importance of a strong start after narrowly escaping relegation last season. And they’ve delivered, bouncing back from an opening-day thumping at Fortaleza with two straight wins. On Sunday, Samuel Xavier fired home a dramatic stoppage-time winner in a heated 1-0 victory over Santos. Flu now sit fifth in the table and will be keen to keep the momentum going.

Prediction: Corinthians 2-1 Fluminense

Internacional v Palmeiras
16/04/2025 – Kick Off: 23:30 GMT

Internacional remain unbeaten after three games, with two draws and a win. Over the weekend, they earned a solid point in a 0-0 draw away to Fortaleza. It was a tight contest, with both sides managing just one shot on target apiece. Now back at home, Inter will be aiming to return to winning ways and build some momentum ahead of Saturday’s big GRENAL clash.

Palmeiras, meanwhile, followed up back-to-back 90th-minute winners with a much more comfortable outing against fierce rivals Corinthians. They stormed into a 2-0 lead and never looked back in a composed performance from last season’s runners-up. Sitting second in the table, Palmeiras will be eager to keep their unbeaten run going.

Prediction: Internacional 1-0 Palmeiras

Flamengo v Juventude
17/04/2025 – Kick Off: 01:30 GMT

Title favourites Flamengo are also early league leaders with seven points, level with Palmeiras at the top. After a home draw with Internacional on the opening day, they’ve looked ruthless with two dominant away wins. The latest came at the weekend as they comfortably dispatched Grêmio 2-0. Back at the Maracanã, the Rubro-Negro will be aiming for more of the same against another side from Rio Grande do Sul.

Juventude have made a solid start to the season with two wins from their opening three—both coming at the Estádio Alfredo Jaconi. Their only defeat came on the road, in Rio, and they’ll be looking to avoid a repeat here. Last time out, they edged Ceará 2-1 in a hard-fought contest.

Prediction: Flamengo 3-1 Juventude

Santos v Atlético Mineiro
17/04/2025 – Kick Off: 01:30 GMT

Santos parted ways with manager Pedro Caixinha following their 1-0 defeat to Fluminense on Sunday. César Sampaio steps in as caretaker while the club searches for a new boss, with rumours swirling about a possible return for Jorge Sampaoli. Peixe are still looking for their first win since returning to Brazil’s top flight.

Atlético Mineiro are unbeaten in their last four across all competitions, but three of those have ended in draws. Over the weekend, they were held 2-2 at home by Vitória—a match that once again saw them create plenty of chances but struggle to put the game to bed. Galo will need to be more clinical if they want to avoid going winless through the opening four rounds.

Prediction: Santos 1-2 Atlético Mineiro

Vitória v Fortaleza
17/04/2025 – Kick Off: 01:30 GMT

Vitória come into this all-Northeast clash still searching for their first win of the season. They’re now winless in their last seven across all competitions. That said, they showed some fight at the weekend, earning their first point with a 2-2 draw against Atlético Mineiro—despite facing heavy pressure at times.

Fortaleza, after the abrupt halt to their Libertadores match midweek, returned to league action with a 0-0 home draw against Internacional. They played well but were left frustrated not to have taken all three points, especially after a draw at Mirassol the week prior. They currently sit seventh in the table and will want to turn good performances into wins.

Prediction: Vitória 1-1 Fortaleza

Cruzeiro v Bahia
17/04/2025 – Kick Off: 01:30 GMT

Cruzeiro are now without a win in their last four in all competitions, with three defeats and a draw. Over the weekend, they were held 1-1 at home by São Paulo. Raposa will be eager to break this rough patch and claim all three points in front of their fans.

Bahia, on the other hand, are unbeaten in 12 across all competitions but have drawn all three of their league matches so far. Their latest was a flat 1-1 with Mirassol, and while the run without defeat continues, they’ll feel like they’re due a breakthrough win in the league.

Prediction: Cruzeiro 1-1 Bahia
