Game Information

Saturday 19th April – Kick-off – 20:00 (GMT)

Kicking off Easter weekend in Brazil is a clash between Corinthians and Sport Recife, with both sides looking to bounce back after difficult weeks.

Corinthians

Corinthians come into this one off the back of two straight defeats. Last time out, despite being tipped as favourites against Fluminense, they were undone by second-half goals — one from Renato and a composed penalty by Arias — handing all three points to the visitors from Rio. Timao can’t really argue with the result, and there’s no hiding the fact they’ll need to sharpen up if they want to turn things around.

After four games, they find themselves down in 14th — not a disaster, but definitely not where they want to be. They’ll be keen to avoid a repeat of last season’s rough first half, where things never really clicked until much later.

Manager Ramón Díaz was sacked following the loss to Fluminense.

Sport Recife

It has been a rough return to the top flight for Sport Recife, who are still searching for their first win of the campaign. Three defeats and a draw leave them sitting rock bottom of the table, far from the start they would have hoped for.

In midweek, they hosted Bragantino and were dealt an early blow when Juninho Capixaba gave the visitors the lead inside 14 minutes. It was not for the lack of trying, though. In what turned out to be an open, end-to-end clash, both sides created plenty. Sport registered 21 shots with six on target, while Bragantino managed 16 with seven on target. Despite the chances, the breakthrough never came and the Northeastern side suffered yet another defeat.

They will be hoping to take a page out of Fluminense’s book and use that blueprint to try and cause an upset here.
