Last night saw an eventful evening with Corinthians kicking things off with a 2-1 win over Sport before some Leo Jardim heroics ensured Vasco da Gama earned a point against bitter rivals Flamengo. Rounding off the night were Gremio and Internacional, who drew 1-1 in a controversial affair.

Now we look ahead to the rest of the game week’s action.

Juventude v Mirassol

20/04/2025 – Kick Off: 15:30 GMT

After a promising start to their return to the top flight, Juventude were brought back down to earth in brutal fashion during their midweek clash with Flamengo.

The match got away early, with Flamengo’s attacking firepower overwhelming Juventude in the first half. Goals from Erick Pulgar, Gonzalo Plata, and Danilo saw the hosts race to a 3-0 lead by the break, leaving Juventude chasing shadows. Giorgian De Arrascaeta made it four, and Pedro added two more to complete a 6-0 rout. Juve struggled to contain the movement and intensity of Flamengo’s frontline, and the defensive shape that had looked solid in earlier matches simply couldn’t cope under sustained pressure. Juventude will need to regroup quickly and put the result behind them.

Mirassol delivered a statement performance against Grêmio, storming to a stunning 4-1 victory that will live long in the memory for the home fans.

The perfect start came inside three minutes, as Daniel Borges opened the scoring with a brilliant strike to set the tone. The early pressure continued to pay off when former Grêmio fullback Reinaldo coolly converted from the spot, doubling the lead and adding extra bite to the occasion.

Reinaldo wasn’t done yet—his curling free kick midway through the first half was a thing of beauty, putting Mirassol 3-0 up and leaving the visitors shell-shocked. Though Martin Braithwaite pulled one back for Grêmio, Mirassol refused to take their foot off the gas.

Fittingly, it was Borges again who wrapped things up, grabbing his second and Mirassol’s fourth to seal a famous win

They will now be looking to build on their victory in midweek.

Prediction – Juventude 2-1 Mirassol

Atletico Mineiro v Botafogo

20/04/2025 – Kick Off 20:00 GMT

The match here is a repeat of the 2024 Copa Libertadores Final. On that day, Botafogo ran out 3-1 winners, despite playing the majority of the game with ten men, to claim their first ever Copa Libertadores title.

It’s been a terrible start to 2025 for Atletico Mineiro, who are winless after four matches and sit second from bottom. They will be desperate to return to winning ways here as they already know what effects of a poor league campaign can have, as they managed to narrowly escape the drop in 2024. Last time out, a poor first half saw them fall 2-0 down away from home against Santos as they failed to get back into the game, as they suffered their second loss in four league matches.

It has also been a frustrating start for defending champions Botafogo, who have won just once of four league matches. After a 1-0 loss away from home to Bragantino, they returned to their home and played out a thrilling game in a 2-2 draw with São Paulo. Igor Jesus rescued a point with a crucial second-half equaliser. Despite creating the better chances, they were left to rue missed opportunities..

Prediction – Atletico-MG 1-1 Botafogo

São Paulo v Santos

20/04/2025 – Kick Off 20:00 GMT

This is the latest edition of the San-São derby, the most recent meeting between the pair came in the Paulista State Championship, with Santos running out 3-1 winners at home.

São Paulo remain one of just three unbeaten teams in the league, but there’s a catch: they’ve drawn all four of their opening matches. Their most recent outing was an entertaining 2-2 draw away at champions Botafogo, a game that saw them leading until a late equaliser from Igor Jesus snatched away what would’ve been a crucial first win. Despite the solid performances, São Paulo will be eager to start turning draws into victories.

After three winless matches, Santos picked up their first win of the season with a 2-0 victory over Atlético Mineiro at home, thanks to goals from Zé Ivaldo and Álvaro Barreal. This marked their first win in the top flight since they beat Goiás 1-0 back in 2023. One negative for Santos was that Neymar went off with another injury. Peixe are still searching for a new manager following the sacking of Pedro Caixinha last week.

Prediction: São Paulo 1-1 Santos

Fluminense v Vitória

20/04/2025 – Kick Off 22:30 GMT

Fluminense made it three wins on the spin last time out with an impressive 2-0 victory on the road against Corinthians. Second-half goals from Renato and a calmly dispatched penalty by Arias sealed the deal for Fluminense, wrapping up a solid three points for the Rio side. It was a composed performance, especially after the break. They will now be seeking to make it four wins in a row. After four matches, Flu sit in third place.

Vitória picked up their first win of the Brasileirão season with a 2–1 victory at home over fellow Northeastern side Fortaleza. This was also their first win in seven matches across all competitions, and one they will be hoping can spark their season into life. With the score at 1–1, Matheuzinho secured the win in the 73rd minute with a well-taken volley, giving the home fans plenty to cheer about. They will be keen on more of the same here against an inform Flu side.

Prediction – Fluminense 2-0 Vitória

Fortaleza v Palmeiras

20/04/2025 – Kick Off 22:30 GMT

Fortaleza will be hoping to bounce back following their 2-1 loss to Vitoria last time out. They are winless in the league since the opening day, and in all competitions, they are winless in three, with one of the matches being abandoned. With the score level at 1–1, Fortaleza were dealt a blow in the 73rd minute when Matheuzinho fired in a well-taken volley to make it 2-1. They will have to be better if they want anything from this game.

Palmeiras are one of three unbeaten teams in the league, having recorded three wins and a draw from their opening four matches. Their heavy investment in the transfer window appears to be paying off for now, though it is still early in the campaign. They have scored five goals and conceded just once, showing strength at both ends of the pitch. This form has them sitting second in the table, only behind on goal difference. In midweek, Palmeiras delivered a composed performance, earning a 1–0 win over Internacional with a well-placed second-half goal from Facundo Torres.

Prediction – Fortaleza 1-1 Palmeiras

Bragantino v Cruzeiro

21/04/2025 – Kick Off 00:30 GMT

Bragantino have won their last two matches and sit in seventh place after four games. In midweek, the Red Bull club travelled to face Sport and got off to a dream start, with Juninho Capixaba firing the visitors ahead inside 14 minutes. From there, it turned into a lively, back-and-forth contest, with chances flowing at both ends. Bragantino held their own in the open affair, creating 16 shots with seven on target, while Sport pushed hard, registering 21 shots of their own. Bragantino stayed organised and did just enough to keep their hosts at bay. Ultimately, the early goal proved decisive, as Bragantino held firm to secure a gritty and hard-fought win on the road.

After going winless in two straight, Cruzeiro needed a response—and they delivered in style with a commanding 3-0 win over Bahia at home. Despite an early missed penalty from Kaio Jorge that hinted at a potentially frustrating evening for Raposa, Lucas Romero broke the deadlock just before halftime to shift the momentum. The second half belonged to Kaio Jorge, who made amends in emphatic fashion with a clinical brace, sealing all three points for the hosts. With confidence restored, Cruzeiro will now be aiming to build on that performance and make it back-to-back league victories.

Prediction – Bragantino 0-1 Cruzeiro

Bahia v Ceará

22/04/2025 – Kick Off 00:00 GMT

Monday night football in Brazil sees two Northeastern sides lock horns.

Bahia travelled to face Cruzeiro looking to build momentum, but it turned into a tough night at the Mineirão. Goals from Lucas Romero and a brace from Kaio Jorge ensured that Bahia are now winless in their last four league matches. They will be kean on returning to winning ways in this one, as they sit in the drop zone. In all competitions, Bahia have won just once in six matches.

Ceará put in a strong midweek performance at home, securing a well-deserved 2-1 victory over Vasco. Vozão started on the front foot, controlling the early stages and setting the tone from the outset. Their dominance paid off when Pedro Raul found the net to open the scoring. The forward was in fine form and struck again late in the second half, bagging his brace and putting Ceará firmly in control. Although Vasco pulled one back through Pablo Vegetti in the dying minutes, it wasn’t enough to spoil the party at the Castelão.

Prediction – Bahia 1-2 Ceará
