Cruzeiro
After seemingly turning a corner last weekend with a convincing 3-0 home win over Bahia, it was back to familiar frustrations for Cruzeiro as they fell 1-0 to Bragantino in their latest league outing. An early strike from Jhon Jhon was enough to hand them the loss, and with just one win in their last six matches, Cruzeiro are under pressure to find some consistency and start stringing results together.
In midweek Copa Sudamericana action, Cruzeiro suffered a 2-1 defeat despite a late goal from Junior Arias that gave them a glimmer of hope. It wasn’t enough to salvage a result, and now Raposa will be looking to bounce back in this next duel as they aim to steady their form.
Vasco da Gama
It’s been a frustrating run of games for Vasco da Gama. After their win over Sport Recife, they followed up with a 2-1 loss to Ceará, and most recently faced bitter rivals Flamengo in the Clássico dos Milhões. In what was a lively match full of chances, it was goalkeeper Léo Jardim who stole the show, making several crucial saves to earn Man of the Match honours and, more importantly, secure a vital point. On another day, things could have gone very differently.
In midweek, Vasco hosted Argentine side Lanús in the Copa Sudamericana, but once again had to settle for a goalless draw. They’re now winless in three and will be eager to return to winning ways in this one.
Prediction – Cruzeiro 2-0 Vasco da Gama
