Flamengo’s early lead at the top has slipped after a frustrating week in the Brasileirão. Last weekend, they faced off against bitter rivals Vasco da Gama and were held to a 0-0 draw. Despite the lack of goals, the match was lively, with chances at both ends. It was the Rubro-Negro who created the better opportunities, but Vasco keeper Léo Jardim put in a heroic performance to deny them.

In midweek, Flamengo were once again left frustrated, this time in the Copa Libertadores, as they played out another goalless draw, this time away to LDU Quito. While the lack of goals continues to be a concern, taking a point on the road in continental competition is still a decent result. After back-to-back stalemates, they’ll be looking to get back to winning ways in this one.

Corinthians

After a frustrating three matches, Corinthians picked up a much-needed win in their last outing. After conceding earlier on, they replied in the second half in great fashion with a fantastic brace from fan favourite Memphis Depay. The result means they sit seventh in the league standings.

In midweek, Corinthians hosted Racing Montevideo of Uruguay in the Copa Sudamericana. They were dealt an early blow when Félix Torres was shown a red card inside the opening 15 minutes, leaving them with a mountain to climb. Despite being a man down, Corinthians held firm and showed great resilience, eventually sealing a 1-0 win thanks to a second-half goal from Paraguayan forward Ángel Romero.
