Vitória
Vitória have won just one of their last ten league matches and will be desperate to find some form. Their most recent Brasileirão outing saw them earn a hard-fought 1-1 draw away to Fluminense. Germán Cano gave the hosts an early lead, but Lucas Braga struck in the dying moments to salvage a point for Vitória.

In midweek, they faced Uruguayan side Cerro Largo in the Copa Sudamericana and fell to a 1-0 defeat at home, a result that only adds to their recent struggles. Vitória will now be hoping to bounce back quickly to kick-start their season and avoid slipping further behind the teams above them.

Grêmio
It might still be early days in the Brasileirão, but Grêmio know how important it is not to lose ground following their relegation in 2021, they will be hoping to turn things around, having not won since the opening weekend.

Their most recent league outing came against bitter rivals Internacional in the GRENAL Clássico, which ended in a 1-1 draw. It was a fiery affair, and Grêmio felt Internacional were fortunate to be awarded their penalty, while also feeling they had a strong shout for one of their own that wasn’t given. Grêmio’s goal came in bizarre circumstances, an own goal from the Internacional goalkeeper that gifted them the equaliser.

In the end the draw was probably a fair result given how the game played out. However, after the final whistle, there was clear frustration from the Grêmio camp, particularly over a penalty claim that wasn’t given. Captain Walter Kannemann was visibly furious, voicing his anger over the decision.

On Thursday evening, Grêmio travelled to Argentina to face Godoy Cruz in what turned out to be a thrilling contest. They took the lead in the first half through Edenílson and looked in control going into the break. Godoy Cruz responded after halftime with an equaliser, but nine minutes from time, Alexander Aravena restored Grêmio’s lead, seemingly securing all three points.

However, the hosts weren’t done yet. Luca Martínez struck late to make it 2-2 and ensure the points were shared.

In the grand scheme of things, it’s not a bad result for Grêmio away from home, but they’ll be frustrated at letting it slip so close to the final whistle.

Prediction – Vitória 0-1 Grêmio
