Ceará v Vitória
03/05/2025 – Kick Off 22:30 GMT
Ceará will be hoping to bounce back after going three matches without a win. After suffering a 1-0 loss to Bahia, Ceará drew 1-1 with São Paulo in their last outing. They took the lead early on through Pedro Henrique, but Ryan Francisco made sure São Paulo didn’t leave empty-handed. Then, in midweek, Ceará faced Palmeiras in the Copa do Brasil and fell to another 1-0 defeat, this time following a first-half goal from Gustavo Gómez. Currently sitting 10th in the league, Ceará will be eager to turn things around and end their recent drought
Also hoping to improve their form is Vitória, who have won just once in their last 11 matches. Last weekend, they took on Grêmio at home and played out a 1-1 draw. Jemerson opened the scoring for Grêmio, but Carlinhos equalised 66 minutes into the match and secured a point for Vitória. They currently sit in 16th place with just one win from six in the league and will be hoping to bounce back in this outing, as they sit only one place above the drop zone. After suffering an early exit in the Copa do Brasil last month, they’ve had no midweek distractions and come into this one the fresher of the two sides.
Prediction – Ceará 2-1 Vitória
Corinthians v Internacional
03/05/2025 – Kick Off 22:30 GMT
Corinthians sit 12th in the league after their opening six matches, with a record of two wins, one draw, and three losses. Last time out in the league, they were on the wrong end of a 4-0 battering by Flamengo in what was a shambolic performance, especially in the first half where they conceded three goals. They’ll now be looking to respond at the first time of asking.
In midweek, they managed to enjoy a 1-0 win over Grêmio Novorizontino in the first leg of their Copa do Brasil tie, thanks to a first-half goal from Héctor Hernández. Timão will now be hoping to bounce back in the league and put last week’s poor display behind them.
After going winless in four matches, Internacional needed a response, and they delivered with a strong week. Last time out in the league, they took on Juventude and came away with a 3-1 victory. Despite conceding early, goals from Victor Gabriel and Rafael Borré helped turn things around and secure the win.
Then, in midweek, they faced Maracanã in the first leg of their Copa do Brasil tie and picked up a 1-0 win thanks to a 93rd-minute strike from Gustavo Prado. Inter will now be hoping to make it three wins in a row in all competitions when they take on Corinthians.
Prediction – Corinthians 1-1 Internacional
Fluminense v Sport Recife
03/05/2025 – Kick Off 22:30 GMT
Fluminense will be looking to bounce back after their disappointing outing last time out, where they were beaten 2-0 by city rivals Botafogo. Vitinho opened the scoring for the hosts before Jefferson Savarino sealed the win late on in what was a strong 2-0 result for Botafogo. It was a frustrating day for Fluminense, who saw plenty of the ball but managed just one shot on target across the 90 minutes. There was a more positive result in midweek, though, as Fluminense claimed a 1-0 win over Aparecidense in the Copa do Brasil, thanks to an 80th-minute winner from Keno.
Sport Recife are the only side in Brazil’s top flight yet to pick up a league win. They are currently winless in their last eight matches in all competitions. Last time out, they managed to halt a run of defeats with a 0-0 draw at home against Fortaleza, in what was a fairly mediocre game overall.
Despite the lack of goals, Sport Recife actually had the better chances, registering 16 shots with eight on target compared to Fortaleza’s 10 shots and just one on target. Even so, Sport will be disappointed they couldn’t find a breakthrough and secure their first win of the season.
Unlike many of the top-flight clubs this week, Sport had a full week to prepare for this match, having been eliminated early in the Copa do Brasil. That means they come into this one the fresher of the two sides.
Prediction – Fluminense 2-0 Sport
Bahia v Botafogo
04/05/2025 – Kick Off 01:00 GMT
Bahia have won their last four matches in all competitions and currently sit 7th in the league standings. Last time out, they took on Palmeiras away from home and came away with a 1-0 victory thanks to a stoppage-time winner from Kayky. It was a huge result for Bahia, and they followed it up in midweek by making it four wins on the bounce, this time beating Paysandu in the Copa do Brasil, with the only goal coming from a 43rd-minute penalty by Cauly. Bahia will now be hoping to make it five wins in a row in all competitions here.
It’s been a much more positive week for the champions, Botafogo, who ended a run of four matches without a win. First, they picked up a 2-0 victory over rivals Fluminense in an all-Rio clash, with goals from Vitinho and Jefferson Savarino securing the three points for Fogo.
Then, in midweek, Fogo hosted Capital in the first leg of their Copa do Brasil tie and cruised to a 4-0 win thanks to goals from Alex Telles, Igor Jesus, Artur, and Rwan Cruz. Fogo will now be hoping their fortunes have turned and that they can build some much-needed momentum heading into next month’s Club World Cup.
Prediction – Bahia 1-1 Botafogo
