Grêmio
Grêmio are going to have to start improving their form, as they’ve only won one of their last eight matches in all competitions. However, last time out was a much more positive afternoon for Grêmio as they took on Santos at home and secured a 1-0 victory thanks to a late goal from Cristian Oliveira, giving them an important three points and lifting them out of the drop zone into 13th place. They’ll now be hoping to build on that result in the league.
Then, in midweek, Grêmio travelled to Peru to take on Atlético Grau in the Copa Sudamericana. Grêmio had more shots, more chances and more possession, but couldn’t find the back of the net in a dull 0-0 draw. The hosts failed to register a single shot on target, showing that Grêmio defended well and limited their opponents, but the inability to convert at the other end remains a concern.
Bragantino
After starting their campaign with a draw and a loss, Bragantino are now one of the in-form sides in the Brasileirão, winning their last five league matches and conceding just once in the process. Following a poor start to last season, Bragantino will be pleased to have hit their stride early this time around, a run of form that sees them sit second in the table, level on points with leaders Palmeiras.
Last time out, they took on Mirassol at home and secured a 1-0 victory thanks to a stoppage-time winner from Paraguayan Isidro Pitta. They’ll now be aiming to make it six consecutive league wins in this one.
Unlike Grêmio, who had midweek distractions, Bragantino have had a full week to prepare for this one, something they’ll be looking to use to their advantage.
Prediction – Grêmio 1-1 Bragantino
