This is the first Choque-Rei derby of the league season. The last meeting between the two came in the State Championship, where Palmeiras claimed a 1-0 win over their rivals thanks to a penalty from Raphael Veiga.

After suffering a 1-0 loss to Bahia, Palmeiras have bounced back impressively and are now on a three-game winning streak in all competitions. At the weekend, they secured a 1-0 victory over Vasco da Gama thanks to a second-half goal from Vitor Roque. In what was a fairly even encounter, Palmeiras did just enough to edge out their opponents and take all three points.

They’ll now be hoping to keep that momentum going in the league. In midweek, they travelled to Paraguay to face Cerro Porteño in the Copa Libertadores and came away with a solid 2-0 win in a tough atmosphere. Estevão opened the scoring just before half-time, and Vitor Roque sealed the result with a stoppage-time goal in Asunción.

Palmeiras currently lead the Brasileirão on goal difference with 16 points, level on points with their fellow São Paulo rivals, Bragantino.

São Paulo are the only unbeaten side in the Brasileirão and are currently on a 12-match unbeaten run in all competitions. Ironically, their last defeat came against Palmeiras in the semi-finals of the state championship.

Last time out, São Paulo took on Fortaleza at home and were held to a 0-0 draw. It was a disappointing result, especially after Ferreira missed a second-half penalty that could have sealed the win.

Midweek brought a more positive result for São Paulo, who travelled to Peru and claimed a 2-0 victory over Alianza Lima in the Copa Libertadores. André Silva was the star of the show, scoring both goals to secure the three points.

São Paulo will now be hoping to avoid defeat and extend their unbeaten run as they take on their bitter rivals in the latest edition of Choque-Rei.
