In their most recent outing, they suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat away to Fluminense. Pablo gave Sport an early lead in the first half, but the hosts responded after the break. Kevin Serna levelled the score before Everaldo struck a dramatic stoppage-time winner to seal all three points.

After conceding late, Sport will be looking to regroup and finally get off the mark. They currently sit bottom of the table with just two points.

Cruzeiro currently sit fourth in the Brasileirão after seven matches and are unbeaten in their last four league games.

In their most recent league outing, they earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory at home against Flamengo. Kaio Jorge opened the scoring for the hosts before Giorgian de Arrascaeta equalised for Flamengo. Late drama followed as substitute Gabriel Barbosa, who came on in the 88th minute, saw his penalty saved, but reacted quickest to slot in the rebound and secure a crucial win against his former club.

Midweek brought disappointment, though, as Cruzeiro were held to a 1-1 draw away in the Copa Sudamericana against Ecuadorian side, Mushuc Runa. The result saw them eliminated from the competition, a tough blow after reaching the final last season. However, it could prove to be a blessing in disguise as they now shift full focus to the Copa do Brasil and the Brasileirão.
