Monday night football in the Brasileirão sees Santos welcome Ceará to São Paulo. The last time these sides met was in Série B last season, where Santos came out on top in both fixtures, winning 1-0 each time.

Santos come into this battle sitting second from bottom with just four points from their seven matches, recording one win, one draw and five defeats, a record they’ll be desperate to improve on.

Last time out in the league, they travelled to Porto Alegre to take on Grêmio and suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat after a goal from Cristian Oliveira in the 78th minute. Santos managed just one shot on target compared to Grêmio’s three in what was a largely uneventful attacking display.

Santos are without Neymar again. He is expected to return next month and remains the only notable absentee for the side.

Ceará
Ceará are enjoying life back in the top flight of Brazilian football. After seven matches, they sit in ninth place with three wins, two draws and two losses. A victory here would lift them to fifth, marking an impressive start for the northeastern side.

Last time out in the league, Ceará hosted Vitória and came away with a 1-0 win thanks to a second-half goal from Marlon. They’ll now be aiming for more of the same in this duel as they look to climb even higher up the table.

Ceará will be without goalkeeper Bruno Ferreira, who is sidelined with an abdominal muscle injury.
