Juventude
Juventude sit in the drop zone after eight matches this season, having recorded two wins, one draw and five defeats. Despite a few encouraging performances earlier on, they are now winless in their last five league outings, a worrying run that has seen them slip further down the table.
Last time out, Juventude put in a shocking display as they were thrashed 5-0 away to Fortaleza. Juan Lucero opened the scoring for the hosts, giving Fortaleza a 1-0 lead at the break. The second half unravelled completely for Juventude, as they conceded four more goals — with Bruno Lopes, Tomás Pochettino, a second from Lucero, and Calebe all piling on the misery.
Juve will now be desperate to bounce back on home soil and respond to what was a truly humbling defeat.
Fluminense
Fluminense have shown much better form this season compared to this point last year. However, their last league outing was one to forget, as they suffered a 3-2 defeat on the road against Atlético Mineiro.
Agustín Canobbio opened the scoring for Fluminense, but the hosts turned the game around late on, with Rubens equalising in the 77th minute and Júnior Santos putting Atlético ahead in the 84th. Just four minutes later, Kevin Serna pulled Fluminense level again, and it looked like they had done enough to secure a point. But it wasn’t to be, as Igor Gomes struck in stoppage time to hand Atlético a dramatic 3-2 win.
Fluminense currently sit fifth in the league and will be eager to bounce back and return to winning ways in this outing.
In contrast, their midweek performance in the Copa Sudamericana was far more convincing. Fluminense hosted Chilean side Unión Española and came away with a 2-0 victory, thanks to goals from Keno and Samuel Xavier. They now sit second in their group and need just a point in their final match to progress to the next round.
Prediction – Juventude 1-2 Fluminense
