Sunday 25th May – Kick Off (20:00 GMT)

Sport Recife
Sport Recife remain the only side in the Brasileirão yet to pick up a win this season. After nine matches, they’ve recorded just two draws and seven defeats, a brutal return that sees them rooted to the bottom of the table.

Last time out, they faced Ceará in an all northeastern derby and suffered yet another disappointing defeat. It was a poor showing from Sport, who struggled to create anything meaningful going forward and once again failed to take the few chances that came their way. Goals from Lucas Mugni and Antonio Galeano sealed a 2-0 win for Ceará, leaving Sport with little to take from the match.

With no midweek fixtures to contend with, Sport come into this next game as the fresher of the two sides. But freshness alone won’t be enough; they’ll need a major improvement in performance if they want to finally break their winless run and kickstart their season.

Internacional
Internacional have had a fairly disappointing start to their Brasileirão campaign. From nine matches, they’ve picked up just two wins, four draws, and three defeats. They’re currently without a league win in their last three outings.

Last time out in the league, Inter were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw at home against Mirassol. Jemmes opened the scoring for the visitors in the first half, before Ricardo Mathias equalised with 13 minutes to go. Inter thought they had completed the comeback when Gustavo Prado found the net late on, but the goal was disallowed for offside, leaving the hosts to settle for a point.

Midweek brought a much more positive result — and a bizarre piece of footballing history. Internacional defeated Maracanã 3-0 in the Copa do Brasil to seal a 4-0 aggregate win. Goals came from Alan Patrick, Wesley, and Óscar Romero. But despite the scoreline, the game was memorable for another reason… Alan Patrick (twice) and Wesley all missed penalties, with Inter squandering three spot-kicks in a single match. Luckily, it didn’t come back to haunt them.

As they head into this next league fixture, Internacional will be hoping to turn their cup form momentum into much-needed domestic consistency and if they’re awarded a penalty, they’ll be hoping for a more clinical finish this time.

Prediction – Sport Recife 0-2 Internacional
