Bahia
It was a disappointing week for Bahia, who were eliminated from the Copa Libertadores following a 2-1 loss to Internacional on Wednesday night. Despite taking the lead through Jean Lucas in the second half, goals from Vitinho and Rafael Santos Borré turned the match around and sealed Bahia’s exit. However, they did manage to secure third place in the group, which sees them drop into the Copa Sudamericana.
Their league form also took a hit last weekend, suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to Grêmio, with former Barcelona striker Martin Braithwaite scoring the winner from the penalty spot in the second half. Bahia currently sit seventh in the Brasileirão and will be eager to bounce back and get their season back on track.
São Paulo
It was a frustrating weekend for São Paulo, who suffered a 2-0 home defeat to fellow Paulista side Mirassol. An own goal from Nahuel Ferraresi, followed by a second-half penalty from Reinaldo, sealed an impressive away win for the visitors and left São Paulo with plenty to ponder. They now sit 13th in the league, having won just two of their opening ten matches, and will be looking to turn things around.
However, there was cause for optimism in midweek as São Paulo secured top spot in their Copa Libertadores group with a 2-1 win over Talleres Córdoba of Argentina. Goals from Sabino and Luciano were enough to seal the victory and provide a much-needed confidence boost. Now, the focus shifts back to the league as they aim to reignite their domestic campaign.
Prediction – Bahia 1-1 São Paulo
