Ceará’s return to the top flight has been a solid one. After nine matches, they’ve picked up four wins, three draws, and just two defeats, a run that sees them sitting in sixth place with a game in hand on some of the teams above them.

They’ve had a bit of a breather recently, with their last outing coming in the cup where they suffered a 3-0 defeat to Palmeiras, a result they’ll be eager to put behind them.

In the league, however, it’s been much more positive. Last time out, they secured a 2-0 win over Sport Recife, thanks to goals from Lucas Mugni and Antonio Galeano.

Ceará will now be hoping to keep up that league momentum and use their freshness to their advantage, especially with Atletico Mineiro juggling multiple competitions coming into this one.

Atlético Mineiro

Atlético Mineiro have seen a real upturn in form lately. They’re now unbeaten in their last six matches in all competitions, a run that includes three wins and three draws.

Their last league outing was a goalless draw against Corinthians, a match where they’ll feel slightly frustrated not to have picked up all three points. Atlético had 13 shots but managed just two on target, something they’ll want to sharpen up. That said, they were never really troubled at the back, with Everson barely having to make a save.

Then, in midweek, Atlético faced Cienciano of Peru in the Copa Sudamericana. Lyanco gave them the lead before Christian Cueva equalised for the visitors. The 1-1 draw was enough to see Atlético through to the next round, finishing second in their group.

Now, focus shifts back to the league, where they’ll be hoping to start converting those draws into wins.
