Corinthians

Corinthians are unbeaten in their last two league matches and come into this one looking relatively stable domestically. However, in midweek, they suffered a 1-0 defeat away to Huracán of Argentina in the Copa Sudamericana, a result that confirmed their elimination from the competition. Realistically, though, it might not be the worst outcome for Corinthians, who can now shift full focus to the league and Copa do Brasil, something they’ll hope to benefit from in the coming weeks.

Last time out in the Brasileirão, they travelled to face Atlético Mineiro and earned a 0-0 draw, a result they’ll be fairly satisfied with, even if the performance lacked any real spark. Corinthians offered just six shots all game and failed to register a single effort on target, despite creating two big chances. They’ll be aiming to be far more clinical in front of the goal here.

Vitoria

Vitória, meanwhile, are on a worrying slide after losing three matches on the spin. Their last league match saw them lose 1-0 away to Santos, where despite having more shots, more on target, and even creating three big chances to Santos’ two, they failed to make it count.

Then, in midweek, they were dealt another blow, this time in the Copa Sudamericana, losing 1-0 to Universidad Católica of Ecuador. What made it worse was that the Ecuadorian side played the majority of the match with 10 men, but a second-half own goal from Gabriel Baralhas sealed Vitória’s exit from the competition.

That said, it could turn out to be a blessing in disguise. With no more continental distractions, Vitória can now focus solely on climbing out of the Brasileirão relegation zone.
