Flamengo

Flamengo are enjoying a strong run of form, currently unbeaten in their last seven matches and riding a three-game winning streak. It was a pivotal week for the Rio giants.

First, they took on league leaders Palmeiras and delivered a statement performance with a 2-0 victory on the road. Giorgian De Arrascaeta converted from the penalty spot before Ayrton Lucas added a second to seal a crucial win that closed the gap at the top of the Brasileirão.

Then, in midweek, Flamengo faced a must-win clash in the Copa Libertadores against Deportivo Táchira of Venezuela. A second-half goal from Léo Pereira secured a 1-0 victory and, more importantly, a place in the knockout stages.

It was a dramatic group finish, with three teams tied on 11 points. Flamengo progressed in second place thanks to superior goal difference , edging out Central Córdoba by having scored three more goals. With momentum on their side, Flamengo now turn their focus back to domestic action.

Fortaleza

Fortaleza sit just a point above the drop zone in 16th place and will be desperate to bounce back after a poor run of form which has seen them lose four matches in a row.

First, they suffered a 2-0 home defeat to Cruzeiro in the league, with Kaio Jorge and Lucas Silva both scoring first-half goals that sealed the points for the visitors.

Then, in midweek, it was a bittersweet evening for Fortaleza who lost 1-0 away to Racing Club of Argentina in the Copa Libertadores. However, thanks to Colo-Colo doing them a favour by beating Bucaramanga, Fortaleza still managed to progress to the knockout stages, finishing second in the group.

But now all focus returns to the league, and after four straight defeats, Fortaleza know they need to turn things around quickly, especially with this looking like another tough test on paper.
