Flamengo
Flamengo return to Brasileirão action after a solid Club World Cup campaign in the US, a run that included a historic victory over Chelsea, a win against Espérance, and a draw with LAFC. Their tournament came to an end in the quarter-finals against Bayern Munich, who showcased their clinical edge in a 4-2 win. Still, Flamengo can hold their heads high after a tournament showcasing their talent on the global stage.
They left for the States in great domestic form, sitting top of the table with a game in hand over many of their rivals. Their last league outing saw them dismantle Fortaleza 5-0 in a ruthless display.
Since then, Gerson has completed a move to Zenit, while Flamengo have already acted in the market, bringing in Jorginho on a free transfer. The midfielder impressed during the Club World Cup and is expected to make his Brasileirão debut here. Flamengo currently sit top of the table with seven wins, three draws, and just one defeat from 11 matches, leading the pack on goal difference. They have scored an impressive 24 goals while only conceding four
The Rubro Negro will be looking to pick up where they left off and reassert themselves as the team to beat.
São Paulo
Whilst Flamengo have been busy in the States with Club World Cup action, São Paulo have had time to rest and regroup, something they’ll be hoping to use to their advantage. They currently sit 14th in the league with just two wins from their 12 matches and will be hoping the break has helped them reset and refocus for the next part of the season.
Before the pause, they had suffered three straight defeats and are in desperate need of an upturn in form. Their most recent outing came against Vasco da Gama, where they fell to a 3-1 loss. After going 3-0 down, a late Ryan Francisco consolation goal was all they had to show for it.
On the 18th June 2025, former manager Hernán Crespo returned to the club. During his previous spell, he guided the club to its first Campeonato Paulista title since 2005. He will take charge of his first game since returning here.
Prediction – Flamengo 3-1 São Paulo
