Palmeiras will play their first game since their Club World Cup campaign, which saw them reach the quarter-finals before being knocked out by eventual winners Chelsea in a narrow 2-1 defeat.

They now return to league action, looking to improve their form after suffering back-to-back losses before the break. First, they fell to a 2-0 defeat against Flamengo, followed by a 2-1 loss to Cruzeiro just before heading off to the States. After 11 matches, Palmeiras sit in fifth place with seven wins, one draw, and three defeats.

They begin life without their teenage star, Estevão, who has now completed his move to Chelsea.

Mirassol
Mirassol’s debut season in the Brasileirão is going remarkably well. They’ve lost just once in their last 11 matches and are currently on a four-game unbeaten run, with three of those ending in victory.

Most recently, before the break for the Club World Cup, they picked up a 1-0 win over Sport Recife, thanks to a penalty from Reinaldo. The full-back has been one of the standout performers, not just for Mirassol, but in the entire division, scoring six goals and providing two assists. Not bad at all for a full-back.

From their 11 matches, Mirassol have won four, drawn five, and lost just twice. The last time they faced Palmeiras, they suffered a 3-2 defeat in an entertaining game back in February in the Paulista State Championships. They’ll be hoping to come out on top this time in what promises to be a tough fixture.
