Midweek football in the Brasileirão sees Grêmio host Fortaleza in what should be an intriguing clash between two sides struggling in the league.

Grêmio

Grêmio come into this match without a win in their last four outings, recording two draws and two defeats in that run. Their overall record after 15 matches stands at four wins, five draws, and six defeats, leaving them in 14th place, just two points above the drop zone. Last time out in the league, they were beaten 1-0 by Palmeiras, conceding early in the third minute to a Facundo Torres strike. Prior to that, they suffered a 3-1 aggregate loss to Alianza Lima in the Copa Sudamericana, adding further pressure heading into this crucial fixture. Grêmio will be desperate to respond with a strong performance at home.

Fortaleza

It was a much-needed turnaround for Fortaleza, who picked up their first victory in 11 matches last time out with a 3-1 win over Red Bull Bragantino. A goal inside four minutes from Deyverson, followed by a Benjamin Kuscevic header, gave Fortaleza an early 2-0 lead. Isidro Pitta pulled one back for Bragantino, but Lucca Prior sealed the win late. It was a vital result for the club and marked new manager Renato Paiva’s first win since taking charge. After a difficult stretch, Fortaleza are now unbeaten in their last two matches and know a victory here could lift them out of the relegation zone. From 15 matches, they have won three, drawn five, and lost seven. The win at the weekend will no doubt inject some belief heading into this fixture.

Prediction – 1-1
