Fluminense
Since returning from Club World Cup action, Fluminense’s league form has fallen off a cliff. They’ve now lost four consecutive matches in the Brasileirão and currently sit in 12th place. From their 15 matches, they’ve recorded six wins, two draws, and seven defeats, leaving them just five points above the relegation zone.

Despite the slump, there’s no need for panic just yet, but the pressure is certainly mounting. Last time out in the league, they suffered a 3-1 defeat to São Paulo. The only bright spot was a second-half goal from Samuel Xavier, but it served as little more than a consolation.

There was some relief in midweek Copa do Brasil action, where Fluminense secured a 2-1 win away from home against Internacional, with Everaldo netting a brace. It was an important victory and gives them a strong position heading into the second leg.

They’ll now be hoping that performance can serve as a springboard to reignite their league form and get their season back on track.

Grêmio
Grêmio also found some relief in midweek action, securing a 2-1 win over Fortaleza thanks to two penalties from Martin Braithwaite. Although Deyverson pulled one back for Fortaleza in the first half, it wasn’t enough, and Grêmio held on to claim a vital three points. The win ended a five-match winless run in all competitions, providing a much-needed confidence boost.

Last weekend, they suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Palmeiras, but bouncing back midweek will give them hope of building momentum. Grêmio currently sit 14th in the Brasileirão with five wins, five draws, and six defeats.

A victory here would not only continue their revival but also see them leapfrog Fluminense in the standings, making this clash one with plenty on the line for both sides.

Prediction – 2-1
