The performance was even more impressive considering São Paulo played most of the match with ten men after Emiliano Rigoni was sent off in the 22nd minute.

The victory ended a four-match losing streak across all competitions, a run that included their Copa Libertadores exit and gave the team a much-needed lift. Now, they will be desperate to make it two wins in a row and put an end to their poor recent record against their bitter rivals.

They’re just three points behind Flamengo, who currently lead the standings, and will be determined to close the gap.

Palmeiras come into this match following a 3–0 win over Vasco da Gama last week, with a brace from José López and a Vitor Roque goal securing a convincing victory. That result came after a 1–0 loss in their previous outing against Bahia, which was their first defeat since August — a run that had included strong performances both domestically and in the Copa Libertadores — and their first league loss since the 1st of June against Cruzeiro.
