Gremio v Santos
04/05/2025 Kick Off 20:00 GMT
Grêmio come into this match sitting in the bottom four with one win, two draws, and three defeats. Last time out in the league, they faced Vitória away from home and drew 1-1. Jemerson put Tricolor in front before Carlinhos equalised for the hosts.
Then in midweek, Grêmio were stunned by CSA in a 3-2 defeat. With the score level at 1-1, Dodi gave Grêmio the lead with a goal in the 80th minute, but CSA hit back through Marcelinho and Brayann to snatch the win late on. It leaves Grêmio with everything to do in the second leg. They’ll now be eager to bounce back and sharpen up their performances as they look to climb out of the bottom four.
Struggling on their return to the top flight, Santos have won just one of their last six league matches. Last time out, they faced fellow São Paulo-based side Bragantino and suffered a 2-1 defeat. Eduardo Sasha gave Bragantino the lead before Ignacio Laquintana made it 2-0. Deivid Washington pulled one back in stoppage time, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation. In midweek, Peixe took on CRB at home in the Copa do Brasil and were held to a 1-1 draw.
Santos have been poor of late and really need to start improving if they want to avoid slipping further behind.
Vasco da Gama v Palmeiras
04/05/2025 Kick Off 20:00 GMT
Vasco da Gama are winless in their last five matches in all competitions. Last time out in the league, they faced Cruzeiro and suffered a 1-0 defeat after a first-half goal from Christian. Vasco created plenty of chances but couldn’t find a way past Cássio, who delivered a standout performance in goal for Cruzeiro.
Then, in midweek, Vasco travelled to take on Operário in the Copa do Brasil, where they came away with a 1-1 draw. They’ll now be hoping to finish the job in front of their home fans in the second leg. But for now, the main focus is getting back to winning ways in the Brasileirão.
After going unbeaten in their opening seven matches, Palmeiras were finally stopped last time out, suffering a 1-0 defeat against Bahia. The loss came in dramatic circumstances, with Kayky scoring a late winner to hand Bahia all three points. That defeat sees Palmeiras drop to second in the table, but it’s still early days, and they’ll remain confident moving forward.
In midweek, they took on Ceará in the Copa do Brasil and picked up a 1-0 win thanks to a first-half goal from Gustavo Gómez. Palmeiras will now be hoping to return to winning ways in the league as they prepare to take on a struggling Vasco side.
Cruzeiro v Flamengo
04/05/2025 Kick Off 22:30 GMT
Cruzeiro sit in fourth place after six matches, with three wins, one draw, and two defeats. Last time out in the league, they faced Vasco da Gama and secured a 1-0 victory thanks to a first-half goal from Christian.
That win was followed up in midweek with another strong performance in the Copa do Brasil. Cruzeiro took on Vila Nova in the first leg and came away with a 2-0 victory, with Kaio Jorge getting on the scoresheet to put them in a strong position heading into the return leg.
Cruzeiro now turn their focus to a crunch clash against Flamengo, a match that could see Gabriel Barbosa line up against his former club.
Flamengo are unbeaten in six matches in all competitions and are one of only two sides in Brazil yet to suffer a defeat this season. It’s been another positive week for the Rubro-Negro, who cruised to a 4-0 win over Corinthians at the weekend. Goals came from Everton, Giorgian de Arrascaeta and Pedro, who scored twice — once from open play and once from the penalty spot — in what was a dominant display.
Then in midweek, Flamengo took on Botafogo-PB in the Copa do Brasil and came away with a 1-0 victory thanks to an 85th-minute winner from 17-year-old Joshua.
Flamengo will be hoping to make it three wins on the spin in this one.
